Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra on 5 years of Rang De Basanti

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra The cast and crew of the momentous Rang De Basanti (RDB) watched the film exactly five years after its release on January 26.

And the best part of this retrospective experience was that the team watched exactly the same print that they had viewed five years ago when they first saw RDB.

After the screening, the entire retrospective team of RDB moved from the theatre to the film's producer Ronnie Screwvala's home.

Says Rakeysh, "Ronnie's home was the nearest to the theatre. So we all moved there and kept chatting about the film till 5 in the morning. I got to know many things that I didn't know about my film, things that the cast and crew had managed on its own while I was preoccupied with something else. It was an amazing experience to just sit and talk about a film that means so much to us."

While Rakeysh is thrilled by the film's lingering relevance to this day, he's also deeply saddened by it. "As an artiste it is gratifying to know that the film still has a deep relevance to society and to cinema. But it's also sad that the issues that RDB raised are today more relevant than they were five years ago. As a filmmaker I am happy that No One Killed Jessica used images from RDB. But as a citizen of India it is deeply saddening to know that issues of socio-political injustice that the film raised are more alive today than five years ago. I can only cross my fingers and hope that the issues in RDB are not relevant five years from now."

Says Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, "The happiest part of viewing RDB again with the entire team was that my daughter Bhairavi and her best-friend Tarni who were only 7 when RDB was first released, empathized with the film now. Some of the big names associated with the film couldn't make it though. Madhavan and Soha Ali Khan were in London. Waheeda Rehmanji was in Bangalore. A R Rahman was away. But the one we missed the most was Lataji (Mangeshkar). When I called to invite her she regretfully said she had another Republic Day commitment. Besides, she argued, she had seen RDB just two days earlier."

Lisa Ray to open yoga studio in Toronto

Lisa Ray Marriage seems far away from Lisa Ray's mind. Speaking exclusively, Lisa reveals she has big career plans this year including the opening of a Yoga studio in Toronto for which, work is on full-throttle at the moment.

Yoga, it must be mentioned, provided Lisa with tremendous emotional spiritual and physical solace during her prolonged illness and recovery last year. And now Lisa is ready to share her Yoga gyan with the world.

Lisa says there's no room for marriage in her life right now. "This news has come completely out of left field. It was most unexpected! I'd love to clarify matters as I'm working on projects in India and don't want my work colleagues out in India to get the impression that I'm not committed to my projects and work out there."

Ask her about the status of her relationship with her faithful companion Brett Wilson and Lisa says, "The point is, marriage is not on the cards. The news that came out is unfounded. I am very good friends with Brett and I described marriage as an 'imperfect institution' to make light of the situation, not to make light of marriage."

Lisa is excited about her projects this year. "I'm opening a hot yoga studio here in Brampton, Canada. There's so much to look forward to this year. Every day is a blessing. I was recently at the Toronto Film Critics Association dinner where I was surrounded with love and compliments on my 'Second Coming' (the near-death illness). I'm working on a kick-ass series for TLC. Finalising some film projects soon. Involved in another momentous stem-cell event in Toronto. Life is grand. I'm so blessed to live and work in two different worlds."

Big B to dye his beard, colour his hair to play Budha

Amitabh Bachchan After retaining the same appearance for the last 11 years, the Big B has suddenly turned experimental about his looks. After happily deciding to sport a freshly-trimmed beard and new hairstyle, a la Prakash Jha for Aarakshan the Big B is going even a step further .In his next film Budha being directed by the Telugu maverick director Puri Jagannath which starts shooting next month; the Big B will dye his beard and hair into a flamboyant trendy colour!

The colour is yet to be decided. According to insiders from the frantically-experimental unit, the Big B would either sport a red-tinted beard and hair. Or it could be various flamboyant colours.

When contacted the director Puri Jagannath said, "That's right. Bachchan sir is going totally psychedelic for his part in Budha. You see, he plays a man who is 60 but believes he's still 25. So he moves around dressed and made up like today's youngster. And if anyone calls him a budha (old man), he is livid. He will be dying his beard and wig."

Even the clothes line for the Big B in Budha would be in keeping with his character of a man of 25. Apparently, the Big B would be borrowing accessories from his son Abhishek's wardrobe.

Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif If the sudden and 'unintimated' Income Tax raids at Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif's residences came as a shock to you, then, digest this one. "I work on one script at a time" - Abbas Tyrewala

Abbas Tyrewala Almost every writer these days tells you that he's loaded with story ideas and how several scripts [with complete screenplay and dialogue] are ready to be picked up by prospective film-makers. It's like going to a grocery store, where, if you don't like a particular soft drink brand, you pick up another instead. But writer turned director Abbas Tyrewala thinks differently.

Come to think of it, one would expect the skilled writer of several interesting films and also director of JAANE TU YA JAANE NA and JHOOTHA HI SAHI to be ready with a few scripts in his cabinet. But he's clueless about what he's planning to make next. "I don't work that way. I don't have a bank of scripts with me. I work on one script at a time. If it excites me, it gets made," Abbas states. Tell him that one eagerly looks forward to his next film and he replies promptly, "So am I!"

Will SRK and Aamir battle it out at the Box Office this Christmas?

Aamir Khan, Shahrukh Khan Earlier, till a few monsoons back, film-makers felt Diwali, Eid and summer vacations were the best period to release their films. Suddenly, crucial dates that coincide with festivals, important events and holidays have become all-important for actors and film-makers. With Aamir Khan hitting gold during the Christmas week [TAARE ZAMEEN PAR, GHAJINI, 3 IDIOTS], Salman Khan back on tracks during the Eid week [WANTED, DABANGG] and Ajay Devgn eyeing the Diwali week [GOLMAAL RETURNS, ALL THE BEST, GOLMAAL 3], the Fridays that coincide with Republic Day, Valentine's Day, Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti and Lohri are also being eyed by one and all.

While producers Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar have confirmed DON 2 for Christmas [23 December], there's talk that Aamir Khan's Reema Kagti-directed starrer might also make it in the same week, which, in simpler words, means that the two mighty Khans will battle it out at the box-office. However, the news is untrue.

First of all, how can two big-budget films, produced by the same production house [both Aamir and SRK starrers are produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar], release on the same day? "The Aamir starrer is definitely not releasing n Christmas this year. Even though we would complete the shooting at a stretch, we want to devote ample time to post-production and marketing of this film. In fact, the Aamir starrer will only arrive in 2012. Yes, DON 2 is slated for Christmas release this year and it's 200% confirmed," Ritesh informs me.

So all you guys [on Facebook and Twitter especially], hoping to see the mighty clash between the two Khans, should stop speculating henceforth.
